Enterprise cms

ECM (Enterprise content management ) - is a set of technologies used to capture, store, preserve and deliver content and documents and content related to organizational processes. ECM tools allow the management of an organization's unstructured information, wherever that information exists.

ECM employed the technologies and strategies of content management to address business process issues, such as records and auditing, knowledge sharing, personalization and standardization of content, and so on.

A new CMS Watch eport shows the growing importance of Enterprise Content Management in an increasingly mobile world. Blame the BlackBerry or the iPhone, but a generation of users are expecting all the data they are used to seeing on the desktop to be available on their mobile devices as well. This evolution in working style frames part of the 2009 ECM report from CMS Watch that highlights the move to mobile. If you want to understand the ECM market, then CMS Watch's 436 report is a very good place to start. Featuring 10-20 page reports on each of the major ECM vendors, it is designed to help readers save money on contracts, save time when shortlisting and choosing vendors, and prevent purchasing mistakes.
Everybody is talking about how to use cloud computing to do more, spend less and bring more zenful moments to your IT department.  But how do the economics of Software as a Service (SaaS) work when compared to traditional deployed software?Yes, there are the obvious points (no servers, wee!). But there are also more subtle bits to the equation. If this is your cup-o-tea, join in this Thursday at 1pm Eastern time for a complimentary one-hour live webinar. The host will be Dan Carmel, a respected content management authority.
Ohio-based Hyland Software has announced that it has launched its SaaS enterprise content management system OnBase in Europe with its first operation centre already opened in London. As a specialist in medical document management, they really couldn’t have picked a better location as the English National Health Service, like its counterparts across Europe, are just about bankrupt and will be in the market for any solution that will cut costs. Hyland's OnBase enterprise content management suite provides integrated document management, business process management and records management in a single application and can be deployed on-premise or as a hosted solution.
I frequently receive questions like this: "We're a major regional hospital, what's the best CMS for us?" Or, "What would you recommend for a mid-sized manufacturing firm?" Or, "What's the right WCM package for a consumer goods company?" Or, "What's getting traction among not-for-profit organizations?" And so on. First, let's dispense with the idea that there is such a thing as a universally "best" or "leading" CMS. Instead, different vendor offerings "fit" better or worse against individual business scenarios. And of course your budget, architecture, and locale matter too.
Let's take another trip to the cloud, shall we? Yes, the adage may be old: to cloud or not to cloud? The open source Enterprise CMS vendor Nuxeo solved this poetic dilemma and took its document management product to the cloud. Nuxeo DM Cloud Edition, now available as SaaS, promises security and reliability, among other things. While many organizations still seem to shy away from SaaS for many obvious reasons, Nuxeo is sure that it can address “the needs of organizations that want to benefit from a proven ready-to-go ECM solution without the related IT constraints and costs.”
On the heels of its acquisition by Open Text, Vignette plans an imminent introduction of VCM 8.0, a key component of the Vignette Web Experience foundation, which is designed to empower marketers and business users to manage media-rich, global Web properties.Vignette says VCM 8.0 allows organizations to easily create and manage an engaging online experience while relieving IT of basic, day-to-day Web responsibilities. Reportedly, a novice user will be able to build Web sites in minutes rather than hours while maintaining brand consistency. VCM 8.0 also includes productivity-enhancing capabilities such as personalized toolbars, favorite shortcuts and workspaces that recall user preferences.
It would be an understatement to say that social media is a hot topic nowadays, including in the enterprise. You may be terrified of using it in your organization, but you really have no choice. Social media is here to stay, and you may as well embrace it rather than fight it. Open Text watches this trend closely and acts accordingly, in its true “candy and aspirin” fashion. Today, the vendor has announced a new addition to the Enterprise CMS platform — Open Text Social Media, which may help conservative organizations to (safely) warm up to social media.

Want more signs that SaaS is becoming a must-have solution in these troubled times? You have to look no further than SpringCM to get them. Last October, it beefed up its SaaS-based enterprise content management system with Version 4.5 and then again, in March of this year, with Version 5.1, adding a number of new features and enhancements. Now, to add muscle to that, SpringCM has announced five new industry-specific applications available on its platform — three of them from entirely new partners and two more from existing partners.
Alfresco has released version 3.1 of its enterprise content management system. Exclusively available to enterprise customers, this version has a number of stability improvements designed to support the most complex enterprises. Improvements to the InfrastructureAlfresco Enterprise 3.0 was put through its paces when it was released. The enterprise content management solution was built for high availability and clustering, but needed some fine tuning. This is what 3.1 provides, fining tuning and some tools to help monitor and maintain:
How do I know? Some smaller vendors are starting to peddle their CMS wares via spam. The latest was a random mass mailing I received today to one of our spam-catcher addresses pitching, "Advanced CMS for Your Site!" -- from an interactive agency I had never heard of. They wanted $3900 for their product. That could buy a lot of "enhancement" pills. But the address and phone at least pointed to what seems like a legitimate firm in Silicon Valley rather than Nigeria.
Enterprise level applications are not cheap. In particular, enterprise content management systems can send an organization's budget plans through the roof. Unless, of course, you are implementing an open source enterprise cms. So the story goes.  According to open source enterprise cms provider Alfresco, they are the alternative with a scalable, easy to use platform at a fraction of the price. We read their Total Cost of Ownership for Enterprise Content Management whitepaper. The whitepaper walks you through the licensing and hardware costs associated with several propertiery ECMs and shows how clearly open source is the more inexpensive option.
Are you tired of hearing of this draft CMIS thing yet? Content management software companies aren’t. No rest until everyone comes up with something CMIS-compliant. Most recently, EMC released an updated CMIS-compliant version of its Documentum ECM platform. CMIS is still in the draft, pre-born stage, but everyone wants a piece of it. Reminds us of the SharePoint saga, only MOSS is already bearing lotsa $$$ behind it. In CMIS case, it’s all about interoperability and inter-CMS-ial, inter-repositorial camaraderie. Kind of like an Enterprise CMS socialism.
Here’s a song you’re probably familiar with: What do companies need? To save money. What else do they need? To increase efficiency. How these things are usually achieved? Through collaboration. We sing it here at CMSWire on almost a daily basis, and the latest to join in on our tune are Enterprise CMS provider SpringCM and Kodak. The two companies are now working together to provide a SaaS platform that enables rapid digitization and remote, subscription-based access to information. Through both faster processing time and lower ownership costs, an increase in productivity for less money is surely on the horizon.

Research and Markets, a research group that tracks the Enterprise CMS industry, has released a report that predicts the Enterprise CMS and Document and Records Management (DRM) markets will see drastic growth in the coming years, with sales numbers more than doubling from US$ 1.6 billion now to US $3.5 billion in 2012. The report goes on to say that the first wave of DRM systems was adopted by groups within enterprises that needed a system to fill a team or a department’s need. Now, entire enterprises are looking to bring Enterprise Content Management Systems online and are considering a different product altogether. This second wave of wider CMS adoption will be fruitful for those companies in the Enterprise CMS market, such as Microsoft and IBM.
The Open Text — SharePoint saga continues, as the Enterprise CMS vendor announces new Open Text Storage Services for SharePoint. This new service lets customers store Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 content in external storage devices, reducing wasted space by automatically detecting multiple instances of the same content.
The Enterprise CMS vendor Vignette announced the availability of a new service called QuickSite. The new offering from Vignette Professional Services (VPS) is designed to do exactly what it sounds like: quickly launch web sites and simplify the Vignette Content Management (VCM) implementation process. The QuickSite service is said to be able to deliver a working implementation of Vignette “within weeks.”
Quark Publishing System 8 and Alfresco Enterprise 2 are working together towards bringing web-based storage and collaboration to Quark assets. This brings the world of content management to Quark Publishing System, and they made a smart decision by choosing the open source ECM provider Alfresco. Quark made good use of an adapter for Alfresco Enterprise 2 that allows users to store assets while viewing and updating the contents in real time. All this is accomplished directly through Quark Publishing System — without the need to visit a web browser or utilize other tools. It is all hooked up and ready to go.
