ECM (Enterprise content management ) - is a set of technologies used to capture, store, preserve and deliver content and documents and content related to organizational processes. ECM tools allow the management of an organization's unstructured information, wherever that information exists.
ECM employed the technologies and strategies of content management to address business process issues, such as records and auditing, knowledge sharing, personalization and standardization of content, and so on.
“SharePoint
is good at a number of things,” says one SharePoint expert, addressing a group
of SharePoint users and followers here in Aarhus. “But it’s bad at just as many.”
There
continues to be much discussion, debate, interest, enthusiasm, and caution
about SharePoint (MOSS 2007). Such is the case here at jboye08 where I’m addressing
the conference on the subject of Intranet 2.0 (today) and eHealth 2.0
(tomorrow).
MS SharePoint's ability to store unstructured data is one of its strengths, it has been claimed.
According to CIO India, the product incorporates so many
features some IT professionals have a hard time understanding exactly
what it should be used for.
However, some experts believe SharePoint's flexibility is one of its advantages, the news provider states.
The publication reports comments made by Rob Koplowitz, a
principal analyst with Forrester Research, that organisations see the
product as a backbone for getting control over large amounts of
unstructured data.
Slowly but surely more details are emerging from a variety of different types of implementations using Microsoft's new SharePoint, "MOSS 2007." I hope you can join us in Washington, DC this June for a couple of very useful MOSS sessions based on practical field experience. First, noted SharePoint guru Shawn Shell will deliver a 3-hour pre-conference tutorial, Taking advantage of the "new" SharePoint. Then, during the conference itself, two other MOSS experts (Randy Woods and Russ Stalters) will join Shawn to tell you, Everything you wanted to know about MOSS 2007 (but were afraid to ask). Hope to see you there.
